It " came in with a heat wave which continues to lend zest to the growing list of disabilities voiced through the newspapers. There is a distinct disinclination in private life to recognise the-changed hours. Housewives and boarding-house keepers complain that diners have struck against the evening- meal' till "the cool following sunset. This means a longer day and heavier duties for domestic workers. Another disability in the liot-_p': ; climate in that it means retiring an hour ; : f earlier in the heat-soaked houses.. This, however, is very generally ignored, with the result that people lie abed longer and are robbed of the cool morning hour's exercise, while early morning workers protest against being compelled to retire before dark. For one hour of working: jj time gained they lose three hours ofpgood sleep. . ..... ..."

Another supposed advantage in favour of daylight saving—lighting economy—-is contradicted by the City Council officials, who declare that the difference in the output of electricity is licit noticed.
