ENEMY PROGRESS IN RUMANIA.

Focsani stands in the valley of the Pulna, midway between the Transylvanian Alps and the River Prath, which forms the eastern boundary of Rumania. It is an important railway centre, and it was used by the Rumanians as the pivotal point in their retreat upon the Sereth. The Germans advanced upon the town after the capture of Rimnicul Sarat a fortnight ago, but the Russians put up a stout defence, here, and only yielded the town when the retreat of the army had been secured, the troops captured by the Germans forming a portion of the rearguard.
