RECRUITING IN AUCKLAND.
POSITION TO DATE. The position with regard to the Twenty-sixth Reinforcements is unchanged, and the -ballot, as already indicated, is taking place in Wellington today. Enlistments for later drafts of men were received as usual during Saturday, the majority of the recruits appearing in the evening. Twelve men offered themselves, two being deferred, three declared unfit, and the remaining seven being accepted. The following are the details of men accepted in the city on Saturday for active service:— W. K. Cummane, labourer, Heme Bay. S. Fulton, contractor, Papatoetoe. H. E. Hansen, commission agent, Queen Street. C. D. Jones, carpenter, Eden Terrace. T. Palmer, .butcher, Hobson Street. H. J. R. Preston, salesman. Commerce Street. A. Whittingham, quarryman, Manurewa. The music discoursed on Saturday evening by the Ponsonby Fife and Drum Band and by the Ponsonby Boy Scouts" Trumpet Band was much appreciated by the public and by the authorities.
CHAXC-E FOR VOLU*TEERS. Enlistments for the 27th and for the 28th Reinforcements are still being received, so that those desiring to escape the demands made by the ballot still have a chance to volunteer. A number of men attended the City recruiting station to-day for medical examination, bufc unfortunately no doctors -were available to put them through. One strapping young fellow, who is below the standard height set for men for active service, was rejected for the third time this morning. He left the station quite disgusted, declaring that he would not again volunteer.
