BUTTER FAT LEVY.
AN INCREASE LIKELY TO MAKE UP DEFICIENCY.
(By Telegraph. Association.)
WELLINGTON, Sunday In the course of the conference of cheese-producers the members were met by the Board of Trade and informed that the Jd per lb levy on butter-fat to make up any deficiency in the price of butter sold locally wa3 not sufficient and it probably would be neceesary to' increase it by id, making the total levy lia per lb. This was strongly opposed and it was pointed out that cheese was h.eing cold at considerably under its market value, and that it was manifestly unfair to make the cneese producers carry a further burden to make up the loea incurred by the butter producers. The matter was left in the hands of the committee set up to arrange matters of detail to deal -with.
