SENSATIONAL INCIDENT.
A HAN DROWNED. JUMPS INTO RIVER. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAXGAXUI, this day. A sensational incident occurred at Wanganui on Saturday night. A man whose name is at present unknown was drowned in the river in the vicinity of th £ *-?>?" Stephen, t?ox, of the eteamer Putik'i, *k's cr«Bfi| 'the bridge when he saw a man walk on the pontoon and apparently plunge into the water. A ewift ebb-tide quickly carried the man under the bridge, and that was the last eeen of him. Three men who were in the vicinity promptly eecured a boat and commenced search, "bxxt without result. Shortly after this Constables Farnworth and O'Donohue arrived on the scene. They also secured a boat and made an extended eearch below the bridge, but likewise without result. It was reported yeeterday that fears were entertained for the safety of a driver who had not been seen since leaving hie horse and dogs at one of the local stable*.
