Foss, who, leaving with the Main Body, 2 ! had served throughout the Gallipoli i [campaign with tlie Wellington Battalion, j He had seen 6crvicc in South Africa in 1899-1902, but when war broke out, not waiting to qualify for a commission, he I enlisted in the ranks, subsequently gainI ing his commission in the field, and i being transferred to the Auckland rcgij ment. LIEUT. R. H. GUTTERIDGE. I Private advice has been received by s | Mr. R. Gutteriidge, of the Colonial Su«ar ( I Refining Company, Auckland, to the ' I effect that his only son, Sec.-JOieut R * j Howard Gutteridge, was instantily killed i by a shell on October 1, the date on c which he was originally reported miss- * ing. Lieut. Gutteridge was in England j at the time war broke out, and he en-!' listed with the Artists' Corps. He was !« an expert in signalling and was kept inj 3 England, <in instructing and other work ' ■Until the autumn of this year. In the < meantime Lieut. Gutteridge had joined f the Queen Victoria Rifles, 9th London - Regiment. He went over to the base at Havre on August 2 last, and on the 22nd of September he left for the front. PRIVATE D. HUNTER. Private Daniel Hunter, wounded, was born in Cumberland, England, and was in the employ of the Premier Joinery Company prior to enlisting. His wife resides at 09, Ponsonby Road. TROOPER L. L. WALLEX. Trooper L. L. Wallen, reported killed ' in action, was the youngest son of the late R. Wallen, of Pakuranga. Prior to J enlisting in the 4th Reinforcements he ' was engaged in farming at Pakuranga. -— —:
