HTTARAU. ■A commemoration service was held in the .Hiaarau schoolroom on Sunday afternoon last, as a mark of respect to the late PriTate Percy Underwood, who has lost his life »t the.hattle front. Rev. W. H. Speer, of Aorthern TrYairoa, preached an impressive sermon. Private Underwood was a son of Mr. William Underwood, who has the .honour of having given four sons to the Empire's cause. PAPAROA. An Important conference was held on Monday ;ast, there being present delegates from the Northern Wairoa. Paparoa, Maungaturoto, Mareretu, and Waikiekie Settlers , Telephone .Associations. The representatives •met at Ruawal Arrangements were completed for linking up the last-named four associations with the Northern Walroa system, thus bringing some 500 members into communication and connecting with ail .Wairoa centres from Ruawai to Tangete'roria. It is expected that the main railway •line will be through in about a months time, and this connection will be available for five hours daily. Another conference of .the associations is convened for March next »t Paparoa. PAPAKTTRA. At a meeting of tie Patriotic League tie treasurer <Mrs A. Willis) reported naviug .received the sum of £28 7/, the net proceeds of the plant sale recently new. Jt ■was decided to forward Xmas elns to the boys on active service from this district. It was decided to donate £20 from the emergency fund and 5 from the pl-ant sale to the "Red Cross funds. Accounts amountIng to £14 for help given to dependents nt a soldier were passed for payment.
