SOME USEFUL WORK. i COURSE PROPER OPEN*. The weather was Sne for training operations at Ellerslie this morning, and with the course proper outeide the trestles available a lot of useful and interesting work was got through. The gates were thrown open about a quarter to five, and soon after J. jivenvp put in an appearance with Prince Merriwee, v?hieh galloped 6even furlongs in 1.36 3-5. He went very fast over the first couple of furlongs, which he ran in 24 3-ss, but after covering half a mile began to tire, and slowed down considerably over the last three furlonge.

Whitford Belle and Lady Bruce spurted four furlongs from a stand in 545. finishing together."

Cultriform was not doing her best to run seven furlonge in 1.39.

Bellacity was better than Argent over six furlongs, which she ran in 1.23 2-5. the latter taking 2.5 of a second longer.

Bedford and Penniless finished the fast work, sprinting five furlongs in 1.8 1-5, with the former in front when the post was readied.
