COMPULSION STEPS.
PREPARING THE ROLL. (Special to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this day. The preparation of certificates of enrolment in the Expeditionary Force Reserve is about half complele," but it may be a fortnight before they are sent out t> the owners, who must in the meantime use their postcard acknowledgments if they are required by tho authorities or their employers as evidence of registration. The reason for delay is not only the extent of the task, but the fact* that the Government Statistician's stalT :s concentrating upon the compilation of a complete roll, so that balloting for men from the first division may take place as soon as possible. This" may De regarded as another sign that voluntary recruiting is on its last legs. Those who are entitled to certificates of enrolment will eventually receive <i postcard notification that the certificate may be obtained upon calling at the post office nominated by the individual in his original application. The certificates are to be sent out in batches, accompanied by a schedule of them, and the holder's signature will be required when delivery is given. The signature will also appear on the certificate retained by the reservist. Care ia being taken to avoid swamping some of the larger post offices by notifying too many persons simultaneously that their certificates are to be obtained. Otherwise, it can well be imagined what kind of a scramble would result at the Auckland. Wellington, or Christcuureh General Tost Offices. "Weakest go to the wall." Be health* and strong. Take Baxters Lung Preserver to strengthen lungs and resist coughs and colds. 1/10 buys big bottle. (Ad.) D The leading Southern ale is Speight's— sixpence per bottle everywhere. Be «ure and get it.—(Ad.
