Thinking it had come from her hnsbaud, phe wired the money, and later received a telegram acknowledftim; it, and sejing a letter wmM ■ follow. Later a postcard which, came aronsed her suspicion, and she communicated with, the - poMce. A representative from the poet office bow said Base called and applied for the'money, bat payment was at first refneed because he could not establish his identity. Snbseqnently he returned, and produced what purported to be a discharge from the Boyal Nary in the name of Young. Bat the certificate bad been altered, and the name at Base ■abetltated. When arrested Base said ioe had been to Portsmouth during the I week-end, and bad giTen Us wife £2. A ramrod w«s ordered.
