SERIOUS CHARGE

A JURY DISAGREES. (By Teleirapli.—Press Aaaoclatlon.) WANGANUJ, Thursday. As a sequel to a young woman's death in Wanganui Hospital, Kichard Patrick Pollard, formerly a recruiting officer of the defence forces in Hawera, was charged in the Supreme Court to-day before Mr. Justice Edwards, with the illegal use of an instrument. The prosecution relied on the deceased's deposition, which stated that an operation was performed by a strange man in a bedroom in the Dominion Hotel at Hawera, usually occupied by another defence officer, and a companion of accused. The defence was that accused vras no party jso the operation. The jury disagreed, end a fresh trial w« ordered. '
