BUGBT. UNIVERSITY THE CHAMPIONS. GOOD WIN OVER GRAFTOX. AFTER A STRENUOUS GA"MK. The deciding game, though not tbe flDal, of the Auckland Rugby Uniou'e senior championships was played before a large attendance at the Show Ground, Epsom, ou Saturday afternoon, when University A played and defeated Grafton by 14 points to nil. A fortnight ago these teams met, and Grafton won by 13 points to 6, but ou a protest on the ground of the winners having played a man who was over age the Union assented to University's request for a replay. <As University the following week defeated Grammar A, their most dangerous opponents, who had not yet met the improved Gralton fifteen, the result of the game leaves University the winners of the competiciun. The game was prevented by the heavy ground and greasy ball, consequent on the recent rains and a slight continuous drizzle during play, from toeing the scientific exhibition of electric passing Ibouts that delight the hearts of the crowd. In this respect it favoured Grafton, whose fast, heavy forwards form the chief strength of the side, antf nad J Dotn sides •battled it out at full strength tnere undouhtedlv would have been an exciting finish. University made a sensational start, scoring from a breakaway in their own twenty-five within the first minute of the game. Thereafter Grattos were asserting themselves, when the referee, after hnving once administered a caution for reckless kicking, ordered two Grafton ■players off the field in quick succession. Even 'with this disadvantage. «rafton kept tbe University forwards fully employed throughout the greater part of the game, and it was through the medium of aggressive individual play among the backs that University- put on a further 11 points. Grammar B beat University B in a bard-fought game by G to 3, while Ponsonby scored only 8 points against a very inferior City combination. The championship points are: —

•Marist Bros, withdrew 'from the competition after playing seven games. The secondary schools' championship final between Grammar A and Sacred Heart was played as a curtain-raiser, a fine exhibition ending In Grammar winning by Iβ points to nil. The first spell was if anything in favour of Sacred Heart, although they were playing against the wind, but in the second halt Grammar outclassed tbeir opponents, and put on eleven points, the first spell having ended five to nil in their favour. Under the conditions, a drizzling rain making the ball greasy, it was a fine game to watch. UNIVERSITY BEAT GBAFTOS. University, the leaders in the championship, finished up 'Winners liy 14 points to nil, but the score does not indicate the merits of the teams, for it was much closer than would be supposed from the totals. Urafton were unlucky in that two of their men were ordered off In tne first few minutes of the game, but -wjth thirteen men they held their opponents well until the final whistle went. For University Platt (2) and Maxwell (2) scored tries, one of which was converted by Chapman. " PONSONBY DEFEATS CITY. Poneonby defeated City, who were five men short, by 8 points to nil. For Ponsonby Belsbam and Aickin scored tries, one of- which J.. Alcken converted. ANYBODY'S GAME. University -were three men short against Grammar B, and, after an uninteresting scramble, the latter won by 6 points to 3. For Grammar Williamson scored a try and Perkins kicked a penalty goal, and for University Adams scored a REPRESENTATIVE GAMES.
