CANVASTOWN EVACUATED.
;By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Saturday. The Minister for Defence was asked by Mr. Poole in the House to-day why the Canvastown lent part of Featherston Ciimp had been evacuated. '' 1 have heard some statements, and it is fair to the Minister to Rive him' a chance of explaining," ?aid the member. Mr. Allen replied: Every batch of troops was given experience under canvas, so that Canvastown was always evacuated when troops went away. This time the men were given leave earlier than usual owing to the continued wet weather making the camp site muddy. The roade in Canvastown were being ■S metalled.
