KETCH ALBATROSS ASHORE.
XEAR KAWHIA. The Collector of Customs (Mr. J. P. Ridings) has received a telegram from the postmaster at Kawhia stating that the wooden ketch Albatross is ashore at ■Marokopa, to the southern side of the ■bar. pf. the crew are safe, but the vessel is being stripped toy the heavy seas. The Albatross is a wooden ketch of 45 tons, built in 1902. She was owned until recently by Albert E. Braund and! others, of Auckland. She was later bought by her present owner, Captain Williams, and has been engaged in trade on the other coast. The place where ehe is ashore—Marokopa—is situated on the river of the same name, and is about 20 miles from Kawhia. A late message from Kaw.hia state* that the engines, cargo and rigging of the boat are being salved, co that she i.* evidently a total wreck. The coast on which she is- ashore is very- rocky and exposed, so that any boat would speedily break up with such a gale a≤ is at present blowing.
