The High Commissioner cables: — "A French official message states that north of Chaulnes, on the southern fringe of the allied offensive, an attempt by the enemy to raid trenches near _hons was repulsed by a. fusillade. "In the Champagne region at Auberive a reconnaissance by Russian troops penetrated and cleaned out an enemy trench with grenades, bringing back some prisoners. "On the right bank of the River Meuse a German attempt to attack Thiaumont work was completely checked."
