Briand) gave a luncheon to the members of the Overseas British Parliaments, i In the course of a speech he said:— ■'.'- ; '•■Jly welcome is not an- ephemeral manifestation of courtesy, but an expression of the ardent appreciation of a nation which is making the same sacrifices as yourselves. We are united toyou by the fraternity of arms. The moment Britain drew the" sword legions of enthusiastic young men from._ustralia, Kew Zealand', Canada, and South Africa,
proud to call themselves citizens-of the British Empire, traversed the oceans to defend their country and liberty." Referring to the Dominions' assistance to the Empire, M. Briand said it \Yas an event the memory of which would be gloriously preserved throughout thejges as a symbol of ideals which stretched beyond the frontiers,of continents. ' The President (M. Poincare), in N receiving the delegates,, said their visit marked a fresh step on the road Britain and France were travelling together. Their object was the triumph of right and libertypand closer union in fruitful collaboration. There, was no longer any question of distance. Considerations of space had vanished. "We are," he declared, "for ever united in thought and feeling." . -
