Mackay. ■ • THE FISH MARKET. A letter was received . from Messrs. Sanford, IJmited, requesting that the placetor, inspection of fish handled by the firm should be at their cleaning and curing factory,' Lower Albert Street, and that the charge, made should be a weekly or yearly sum, instead of at so much per ton of flsh handled. ... Referred to the Public Services Committee. The Public Services Committee reported, that the Auckland Electric Tram-ways Co., Etd., had offered to supply the ilsh market wifh the amount of salt water required at present, subject to cancellation if any difficulty arose. The company sug-: gested. that the piping and valves placed jn their pump, house should become their property, arid that it would be necessary to lay a 21n pipe and put up a 3,000-gaUon storage tank at a cost considerably under (£IOO. ' The offer of the.. company was accepted with thanks, and the City Engineer was authorised to proceed with the work. QUEEN STREET SHOP. The Public Services Committee reported • that it had discussed the. question of transferring the retail' fish business from the market to Queen Street, and recommended that it should be ■ authorised to take the necessary steips to secure suitable, premises in Queen Street. After a discussion in committee; the report was adopted. . NIHOTUPU DAM. The City Engineer presented a special report dealing with the;progress of work at Nihotupu Reservoir. _Thls stated that the excavations for foundations had p.roceeded. satisfactorily, although the amount excavated had not been so' great as for.merly, fpr.the reason that hard rock -was being met with. Everywhere the foundatione were looking excellent, and the quantity., taken out to July 5 was 18,400 cubic yards in the main.. excavation, and 300 cubic yards in the curtain wall excavation, while the measurements on "April .5 was 15,700 and 095 cubic yards respectively. There was every indication that the figures = given in April last would not-be exceeded either;ln regard to quantity of excavation or concrete* ■ MARKET BTjna>INGS. The Works Committee recommended that [all- existing fences at Victoria Park be removed, and that the boundaries of the park should toe left open, no fences •to he erected. The. City Engineer has ■been instructed to submit plans showing suitable treatment ot the ■ frontages, and particularly of the entrances. The report iras • adopted. MISCBIiLAKBOIJS. On the recommendation of the ■ Public Services Coimnittee, the Council agreed to exchange land in Waikumete Cemetery for a similar area in Waari Hamlet, in order to facilitate the straightening of a road. - The 'Works Committee's recommendation that, because of the •flnan<*fel position, no further authorisations for street improvements should be .made, in view of the revision of the estimates to he considered at the next meeting, wae adopted. The recommendation arose oat of the petition ■ -suggesting tie kerblng.and- channelling of Stuart Street, Ponsonby. In regard to the application, by Messrs .Whitcombe and Tombs, Ltd., to erect a new building in reinforced' concrete in Queen Street,-the Works- Committee reported that the plans -were satisfactory and should- foe approved;—Xhere'port-',was adopted. .... The Council endorsed the decision of the Works Committee In decHning permission to Messrs Hardley's and the Gas Company's employees to, play foQtbaU. on.the : slde ground.near the. bowling green- on Victoria tPark, on. the ground that this portion of the -park -was act aside for a children's playground. The Council granted permission to the beddoa 'Memorial ' Ooliege ' authorities, subject to approval of plans, to erect a pair of gates!on the Council property at the top of the alleyway in Wellesley Street East, ibetween the Training College and I Technical College, arid to build'a retaining wall contlOTous of the present line of the Training College nearest to the Technical College, Permlaßion * as . also granted to the City Schools Committee to continue the picket fence from Beresford Street to the Grammar School 'boundarr subject to its removal at the Coundfs pleasure. .
