LATE MR J.J. CRAIG.
- A2ST rVIPRESSIVE FONBEAL. Between 500 and 600 mourners at--tended the funeral of the late J. JCraig at Purewa Cemetery yesterday afternoon. Prior- to leaving the residence a short s.ervice was conducted by the Rev. E. J. McFarland, vicar of St. Barnabas. The chief mourners at the funeral, which left the' house about 2.30 p.m., were Messrs. Alec Campbell Craig and Selwyn Graig, sons of the deceased, Captain Alec Campbell; deceased's father-in-law, Messrs. E. A. Craig, H. R. Craig, and W. A. Craig, brothers; Robert Craig, uncle, Captain C. E. Hood and - Mr - Arthur Rosser, brothers-ia-law, and Messrs A. Rosser. junior, Horace and Roy Craig and E. R. Hood, nephews. The bearers of the remains were six of the late. Mr. Craig's oldest employeesMessrs. \V. Gurney, R. Jordan, M. Keefe, W. Triner, J. Buckley and J. Stokes. At the close of the burial service Mr. McFarland paid a tribute to the deceased as a good steward of the many wonderful talents which God had given him. His death was a personal loss not only to the speaker, but to thousands of othters. . .Following the interment the relatives of deceased assembled at the residence, when the late Mr. Craig's will was read. It is understood that the bequests under the will are of a private character. The trustees appointed to administer the estate are as follows:—The late Air. Craig's widow, his eons, Messrs. James -Campbell Craig and Alec Campbell Craig, and his brother, Mr. E. A. Craig. Mri James Campbell Craig is now at the front. *'-,": CITY COUNCIL'S REGRET. At last night's meeting of the Auckland City Council the following resolution was carried, on the- motion of the Mayor (Mr J. H. Gunsonj. 'by the meet-' ing rising: "That this Council place on record ite appreciation of the great loss, to the community by the death of Mr J. J. Craig, ■who, by his many benefac-. tions and great interest in public and social questions, ehowed his practical regard for the welfare of the city and the community in which he took a leading part."
