Collected by Mrs. Cohnle, £2 10/. APPEAL TO rCBLIC BODIES. CIRCULAR TO BE ISSUED. The Executive Committee of the Navy League have decided to issue a circular to the public bodies in and about Auckland, setting out the claims of disabled sailors and their dependents. A special circular is also being sent to the Masonic lodges. Tho former circular, in the course of an eloquent appeal, states: "Under the protection of the Navy vre have grown from a email colony into one of the great Dominions of the world, and wo have been able to live our lives in peace, till our fields, and carry our produce to! the uttermost parts of the earth, be-1 eanse the same shield of Britain has ever been over us and oure. The British Government has given what it can—it has provided for the bare wants of the dependent* of those -men. but it asks that thej may he treated, not in trie j spirit of a scanty dole, but in a spirit lof large charity and generosity. Surely [it will not ask in vain. least of all from these daughter States, which have enI joyed peace and prosperity and freedom 1 from invasion in the midst of this i world-war. More than any Government ■ grants will the men of the service value ' our gifts for their wounded comrades. ! and for the widows and children of those I who are gone. They will value them as ! showing our appreciation and gratitude I for the ceaseless watch they have main- ; tamed, and all the perils they have so I willingly faced."
