INFANTRY ACTIONS ON EASTERN FRONT.
RUSSIAN SUCCESSES IN JACOBSTADT SECTOR. ENEMY'S POSITION BOMBARDED WITH ASPHYXIATING SHELLS. PETEOGRAD, March 23. A Russian communique states:— "Lively infantry actions have been proceeding along the whole front. Tiie Russians have captured a couple of villages and some woods in the Jacobstadt eector, north of Dvinsk, and a line of enemy trenches in the Mikzinny-Lakc Sckly sector. "Desperate infantry fighting has taken place north of the village of Postava, in the Vileka-Mojeika region, east of Vilna, where the enemy is directing violent counter-attacks owing to our troops capturing their trenches. The machine-gun fighting on the south-western shore of Lake Nnrocz is developing in our favour, despite the. asphyxiating gases used by the enemy, and & murderous fire. We forced three lines of the enemy* trenches, and stopped a counter-attack by using projectiles with asphyxiating poisonous .gases."
