BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Birkenhead Borough Council was held last night. The Mayor (Mr Jas.- J-. McPhail) presided, and Councillors Colin Mason, Boot Webb, E. 6. Sfceatcs, F. J. Stewart, ,1. T_ Ijeonard, Albert Hadfield, JVm. Sampson and C. EJ. Campbell were also, present. Works.—The foreman of works reported that the work on Olenfleld Road was Hearing completion. The. metal was being spread, anil-would be blinded. The cutting near the cemetery had' heeii laid ' with spawls. The blinding of the other streets had been completed. The footpaths in Hanraki and Harbour View Roads had been tarred and sanded: also Hineinoa Street, from the wharf to Arawn Street. The blinding of Puriri Ttoad could be put iv hand if shell was available. The Council decided to proceed with the blinding of this road. Aeroplane Fund.—lt was resolved to place the subscription list for presentation of aeroplanes to the imperial Government at the Conneil office, the Town Clerk to receive donations. Municipal Association. -Mr T. I'\ Martin, secretary of the X.35. Municipal Association, wrote intimating' that the conference of delegates, which should have been held in July nc.vt, had been postponed till next year, owing to war matters occupying so much attention. Urgent remits should he sent to the Executive Cmomittee before the Ist M-.iv next Traffic By-law.— The Newmarket Borough Council forwarded a rough draft of a proposed by-law which it was desired should be made uniform in the districts around Auckland. The Town Clerk said the RlrkenUieid by-law was somewhat more stringent than the proposed by-law submitted. Cr. Skeates was appointed delegate to any conference that may be arranged on the question. Water Board Account.—A request from the Uike Takapuna Board of Control for the payment or £40 16/11 for water withdrawn from Lake Takapuna was referred to the Council in committee. Motor Bus Fares.—The increased scale of motor bus fares was approved, the suggestion lieitig' made that concession lickets should be the same price to or from the wharf. Electric Light.—The Northcote Borough Council wrote agreeing to confer on the question'of an electric lighting scheme for Birkenhead and Northcote. Onewa Road.—Dr A. F. Mickle wrote complaining or the state of the road from the Methodist Church to Northcote. It was decided to inform the writer that work would be undertaken on the road when funds permitted.
