CONGRATULATIONS FROM TEE BRITISH COMMANDER. LONDON", March 21. Sir Douglas Haig telegraphed to General Joffre in the following terms: "While deploring the loss of gallant Frenchmen in the great battle the British Ar.my desires to assure you of its admiration for the heroic performances of the French Army at Verdun, where Germany has chosen to break her strength in vain against the unconquerable soldiers of France." General Joffre replied: "The Frencli Army is confident it will obtain results from which all the Allies will reap advantage. The Army remembers that its recent call upon the comradeship of the British Army met with an immediate and » a complete response."
