ALL FOR EMPIRE LEAGUE.
APPROVED BY MINISTERS. In connection with the movement of the All for Empire League, an organisation that aims at the elimination of enemy trade and influence from New Zealand, the following influential local committee has been set up by the Auckland Commercial Travellers' Club: Messrs. J. M. Mennie (president). W. Garrett, A. CI. Cooke. A. Woodall. D. \V. McLean, J. A. Reeve, and L. W. McGlashan. A meeting of the committee will be held thortly. to be followed by a public one. Btronj promises of support have been received from wholesale and retail firms. Fn answer to communications for-wnrdc-d to members of the Cabinet and ■various public men throughout the Dominion by I he Wellington Committee of the league satisfactory replies have been roreived. The Right Hon. W. F. Massey, , in his communication, expressed the hope j that tne movement would he supported by every class of the community. The I-'iter riintinues: "The Government has already cbtained power by legislation to imu.-sc additional restrictions on trade from present enemy countries, and I am j fiiiulv of opinion that we should neviT again allow ourselves to drift into the | position we were in before the war of | dealing with countries simply because their goods were cheaper than those of, British manufacture." Mr. Massey also i intimated that it was his intention to | address the public meeting to be held in I Wellington under the auspices of the i League. Sympathetic replies have also been received from Sir Joseph Ward. Hons. A. L. Herdman, Dr. McXab, James Allen, G. W. Hussell, and W. 11. Herries.
