SHRAPNEL?
Shrapnel! Speak its name with hated breath. Its horror deep Into your minds instil. Shrapnel! Harbinger of pain and detth— A man-made engine of the Devil's will. Listen! Hear the distant, s'utlen Tokr Of guns from which the heUleta shells are hurled. Listen! Hear the bursting fiends outponr Whizzing showers of death upon the world. Shrapnel! See the ranks of fighting men; How 'bravely they rush, out to meet the foe! Shrapnel! There's a bold advance, and then It swoops and breaks them with its deadly blow. Listen! Hear the cries and hear the groans Of stricken men all lying bathed In blood. Listen! Hear the deep and ang, ulshed moans of dying as they lose the vital flood. Shrapnel! See the tragic, eilent things It's made of Men—now merely lumps of Clay. Shrapnel! All the pain and death It brings— All, only those who've eecn can ever I Bay! -ALFEEII K.KEBS, M*DX*"CIE*.
