OBITUARY.

MR. E. G. B. MOSS. Mr. Edward George Britton Moss, bar-; rister and solicitor, and a former member, for Ohinemuri in the House of Representatives, died at bis home in Clay? : brook Road. Parnell, on Thursday ..night, • aged CO years. Mr. Moss had been suffering for several years from an exceedingly painful illness, and his death was not unexpected. He was the second son of the late Mr. F. J. Moss, who repre- . sented Parnell in Parliament from to 1890, and was afterwards appointed first Commissioner of the Cook Islands. Mr. E. G. B. Moss was born at Longwood. St. Helena, and arrived in New Zealand with his parents in 1859. He was educated at the Otago Boys' High School and the Church of England Grammar. School, Parnell. Later he was articled ito Mr. Andrew Beveridge, provincial[solicitor at Auckland, and after his aa : ! mission as a barrister and solicitor in 1 1877 he practised at Greymouth, Tauranga and Paeroa, removing to Auckland | I some years ago. j Mr.'Moss first became a candidate ttt - : Parliament in 1899, when he was de-' feated in the contest for the Ohineroufl . seat by Mr. Jackson Palmer. At thc.-r nest election he defeated Mr. PanrWi; and held the seat from 1902 to ISWo, | when he lost it to the present member, Mr. H. Poland. In 1908 he contested Parnell with Mr. F. Lawry, but WW unsuccessful. He was again" announced as a candidate in 1911, but ill-healtt. compelled him to retire from the election. In his earlier days Mr. Moss took « interest in volunteering and athleticsHe was a keen student of natural science, and was the possessor oi- a vcr - T fine collection of New Zealand shells, on which he published a book, written in collaboration with Mr. Charles Spencer.
