" In order to obtain a separation allowance for his former landlady, a Croydon woman, a private in the Royal Marine Light Infantry, described her as his foste'nnother. He has been fined £1, and the woman 16/, wifch costs. A solicitor from the Public Prosecutor's office said that there was a prevalent idea that anything would do for a claim for separation allowance, and his department had had to prosecute in no fewer than 300 cases up and down the country.
