When the Mayor or Auckland delivered a welcome to the members of the Methodist Conference yesterday, he made some remarks aiout the church bein" out of touch.with the people. All teachers like.;to.know -that their words have not fallen upon idle ears, and from occasional.remarks'- at meetings held since it is quite evident that 3lr. Guneon'e words did not fall on barren ground. " They cay we are out of tpneh' with, the people," was beard this morning at the Conference. The Rev. W. Cocker, when speaking on another matter yesterday at the Conference, remarked incidentally thai the' fact the Mayors of Anckland, Christchnrch, and Wellington wero elected by the popular vote, and were Methodists, did not eeom to point to the church being out of touch •with the people. He also mentioned that ex-Mayors of Diuiedin, Kaiapoi, and Hawcra were members of tlm Conference.
