NEWS OF N.Z. SOLDIERS AND NURSES.

(From Our Special Correspondent.) LONDON. December 30. Mr. Hector McQuarrie. of Auckland, who, on the outbreak of war, was in Portugal, came over to England and enlisted in the 19th Hussars, and after six weeks as a trooper, obtained a commission in the Royal Field Artillery. He has now been in France for about six months.

Mr. Melville Andrews, of Palmerston North, who arrived in London at the beginning of the month by the Arawa, intends to join the Royal Naval Air Service, and for the present is staying at tbe Waverley Hotel.

Mr. Gilbert Clark, of Ponsonby, who came to England to offer his services, has joined the Artists' Rifles Officers' Training Corps, and is now undergoing a six weeks' course of training at the headquarters in Duke's Eoad, Eustoo, prior to going into camp at Gidea Park. Captain H. C. Critchlev-Salmonson, of the Royal Munster Fusiliers, who was Adjutant of the Canterbury Infantry Battalion, until he was wounded some months ago, is returning to New Zealand about the end of January as Assistant Infantry Instructor, as he will not be fit for service for a considerable time.

sergeant B. N. Sandlands. of Feilding, who was shot in the head nad has since been suffering from double pneumonia and enteric, has now recovered, and is on furlough.

Trooper M. Desmond, of Feilding, who was shot in the hip, is now on furlough, and has visited Ireland and the Midlands and is now in London.
