NEW FREEZING WORKS.

A DOMTNION RECORD. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) GISBORNE, this day. The Poverty Bay farmers' freezing works were opened to-day at Kiiita.rathi, thousands of townspeople journeying to attend the function. The foundation stone was laid on August 20. Claiming the erection of the works within six months as a Dominion record, Mr. Lysnar (chairman of directors) mentioned that credit was due te the Imperial authorities. One of the first actions of the company was to inform the authorities of the establishment of the works, and their importance in relation to maintaining food supplies, whereupon the authorities readily consented to place material and plant in the same category as war material. The company thus obtained dispatch, whilst plant for other works started twelve months before had reached the docks at Home and been commandeered. The new works have at present a capacity of 1,500 Bheep daily, and their ultimate full capacity will be 4,000.
