NGARUAWAHIA RACING CLUB.

KfTERESTING RACIXG. The racing was decidedly interesting, and the fields for the greater part good, no less than 21 saddling up for the Hack Handicap and 16 for the Maiden Handicap. Mr A. H. Waring officiated as judge, Mr F. W. Edwards as handicaipper, and Mr W. G. Abbott as starter, the gathering being well managed by the secretary, Mr E. Rathborne. THE OPENING EVENT. The opening event, the Handicap Hurdles, brought out niuc runners, Kiangareke 'being withdrawn. From a good start Lady Lobelia, Overdale and Hawea raced in line past the 'Stand, but going out of the straight Lady Lobelia went to the .front, while Dumrobin ran np second. Tie ipair were almost on terms entering the straight, and in a punishing finish Lady ' Lobelia got the verdict by a short bead, with Buster BUI four lengths away, third. Time, 2.50 3-3. A GOOD FIELD. Sixteen came out for the Maiden Handicap, those to drop out being iliss Lupinus, Corregidor, Velnra, Warstripe, Nip and Sanwich. From a strung-out start Heat J Wave was the first to show prominent, with Golden Nut as her nearest attendant, the pair showing the way into the straight, where Lupterino and Walnera. improved their positions. Heat Wave was in charge at the distance, tout Lu-perino, finishing fast next the rails, got up to win by half a length, with Wainera -i similar distance away, third. Tune, 1.18. TEE BIG UACE. The withdrawal of Positive, Lady Lobelia and Report left a quartet to contest the Ngaruawahda Cttp. King of the Valley was first to break the line, followed by i Starket and Dclenda in ithat order, with. I Ruination last. Crossing the top the field closed up, and there was not much, between them turning for home. In the run. down J the straight a good finish was .witnessed, i King of the Valley getting the verdict by jtialf a length, with Ruination a length away, third. Time, 2.13 1-5. A SMALL FIELD. Only a trio, Arawa, Hamlet and Positive, came out for the Publicans' Purse. Arawa was quickest to begin, with Positive and Hamlet racing in that order. The lastnamed ran up second crossing the top, and was Ara-wa's nearest attendant as they turned for home, where Positive came to grief. In the run to the judge Arawa easily held his own, winning easily by two lengths. Positive was remounted and was placed thh-d. Time, 1.17 4-5. After the race the stewards had O'Hare, the rider of .Hamlet, before them, and fined him £1 for not riding his mount ont. A RECORD FIELD. Warstripe, Black Flash _ and Sanwich failed to come out for the Hack Handicap, which left the record field of 21. Wainera ! was first to show out from a somerwbat uneven start, followed by Saccharine, Velnia, Heat Wave and Kip, and so they crossed the top. Tnrnlng for home the field closed up, and after a great finish Heat Wave got the decision by -half a head from Nip and Wainera, which the Judge was unable to separate, declaring a dead heat for second. Time, 1.1. THE WELTER. Buster BUI was the only one to decline his engagement in the Walngaro Welter, leaving half a dozen. The start was not a good one. Spalna getting the best of It, but was soon displaced by Eminent, which showed the way into the straight. At the distance Luptrriao. Gipsy Martian and King of the Valley put An their claims, and after an interesting straggle Liiperino flashed past the j*>st half a length in front of Gipsy ilnrtian. with King of the Valley a length away, third. Time, 1.44 2-5. THE GATHERING CONCLUDED. Tlie concluding event, the Flying Handicap, brought out a field of 13, the withdrawals .being Hamlet. Positive, Lady Lobelia, Sea.wai. Rangle and Lozette. Meddler was quickest to begin, followed by Arawa, Golden Nut and Delenda. Arawa. took charge as they «nne round into the straight, and was the leader at the distance. Here Delenda challenged, and, gradually wearing down the leader, got the verdict by half a length, with Miss liUpinns a length away, third. Time, 1.2 1-5.
