DER KAISER'S GRIEF.

A "Matin" correspondent in Germany saw the Kaiser after his illness, when he ■was leaving Berlin for Sofia, Enormous crowds farewelled "Der Kaiser," whose hair was -white, and his face pale and thin, the features being drawn, the eyes dim, and the high cheek bones standing out angular and hard. The correspondent bought an official booklet explaining that the Kaiser -was not ill, but was mentally upset owing to the war. The book further explained that it "also grieves him to find that the Kings and Princes whom he regarded as friends have abandoned and tnrned against ! him."
