CONTRACTORS' LABOURERS' AWARD.
EFFECT ON LOCAL BOD_S>. EMPLOYEES' CONFERENCE AT HAMILTON. Tlie attempt of the Contractors' Labourers' Union to attach a number of local bodies to the contractors' section of the General Labourers' award is being combated by the Auckland Provincial Employers' Association, which bodyis circularising country and borough councils, pointing out the serious inconvenience and needless expense local bodies will be put to if the Labourers' Union succeeds in its efforts. The secretary of the Auckland Employers' Association (Mr. S. E. Wright) is endeavouring to arrange a conference of local body delegates to be held at Hamilton on Thursday. February 24, to discuss the matter with the object of either calling evidence before the Arbitration Court and relying upon the Court to strike local bodies from the list of parties, or to take steps to cite the unions for an award covering all workmen employed by the local bodies under Buch terms as would be fair and suitable. The Hamilton Borough Council decided last night to be represented at the conference.
