ROTORC A, Thursday.
A meetinz wns held in the Tourier. Inquiry Offioc of the trustees of the money contributed by the Eon. W. H.I Herries nnd othrre for the purpoec of ! providing eoaiforta and recreation for i the invalid soldiers in Rotorua. Mr. W.; Hill presided, and there were present Colonel S. Ncwall. Messrs. A. W. Gillies, 0. \\\ Exalt, W. VV. P. Hall, and H. F. Twigden, the U»si two. with Mr. Hill.' having been appointed by the executive of the Kotorua centre of the Auckland Patriotic Provincial and Wur Relief Aβ sociation to act ac its representatives. The chairman reported the receipt of, since the last meeting, the following amounts throu-rh Colonel Xewall: £50 from iMr. 5. Johustone, of Takapau; £5 from Mr. Kcbball; 22/ from Master J. Smith, of Lake House, and £5 0/6 from Mr. H. Williams, of Maetcrton. The amount of the fund wm £183 17/2. It was decided that the name of the organisation should be the Invalid Soldiere' Benefit Association, and .Mr. Hill was unanimously elected chairman. The chairman reported that a present of five casee of benzine for the donated motor car had been received. The Rotorua Jockey Club has decided to srant returned soldiers free admission to ite approaching race meeting, and the Association decided to supplement this by (providing conveyances to take them to and from the course, al.*o to give them afternoon tea. The chairman stated that the oil launch belonging to the Internal Affaire Department had been placed at the die-po-al of the soldiers for two days a week. He a.leo drew attention "to some remarks on the King George V, Hospital appearing in Saturday's ieeue of the "Jlorald," and in particular to one commenting on the small size of the billiard table. That table was a gift, a fact of which the writer seemed to be unaware, and in justice to the donor, Mr. A. W. GiDies, he thought it only fair to state that that offer was a full-6ized table, but the Government, in accepting the offer, aeked Mr. Gillies to make hie gift a three-quarter 6izc one on account of the email epace at disposal. A list of requirements by the soldiers was presented by Colonel Ncwall, and that gentleman was authorised to purchase the same. Captain Sir Robert Walker, of the Grenadier Guards, who is staying at the Grand Hotel, bent on recuperating after being at the front for some time, has offered Colonel Newa.ll another billiard table for the use of the men, while Dr. Herbert is interesting himself in the provision of a kind of houseboat somewhat after the style of those in use on the Thames. By this means, and a couplo of small boats, parties of invalid 6oldiers could, in turn, have plenty of good fishing under the most healthy conditions. The Soldiciß , Institute opened by the Salvation Army is being made good use of by the men, especially in the evenings. Some 250 letters have .been -written already in the room set apart for that purpose.
