SENILITY AND ASTHENIA
CAUSE OF FARMER'S DEATH,
KNOCKED DOWN BY A COW
The circumstances of the death of a farmer named Wenzel Tolhoff, late of Puhoi. were inquired into by the Coroner (Mr. F. V. Frazcr, S.M.), at the morgue this morning.
Lawrence Tolhoff identified deceased as his father. He stated that on December 24 he found his father lying by the cow-bails at the. farm with his leg broken, and on inquiry as to bow the accident had happened, was told that the cow bad not been fastened up, with the result that, while deceased was milking, the animal turned round unexpectedly. Deceased slipped in an endeavour to get out of the way, and broke his leg. A doctor was summoned from Warkworth. but did not arrive till next day, when he ordered the injured man's removal to the hospital.
Dr. John McGhic, senior resident medical officer at the Auckland Hospital, Faid that deceased was admitted -to the institution at 0.30 p.m. on December 20, suffering from a fracture of the right femur. He died at 2.30 ajn. on l'ebruary 2nd.
The coroner returned a verdict to the same effect as that given in the evidence of the medical officer—death being due to senility and asthenia, hastened probably by the deceased being confined to bed.
