An offence which is alleged to have taken place six years ago is now being investigated by the Auckland police, and until the inquiries are completed the Wellington police are retaining the suspect in custody. When attending the recent race meeting at Trentham, William Henderson learnt that a warrant was out for his arrest, and, professing absolute ignorance of any doubtful trans- . action, he voluntarily gave himself up, He found that he was charged with breaking and entering the dwelling of James M. Phillip, and etealing two sleeve-links, valued at £2 2/-. As no word has since come to hand from Auckland, he was further remanded for one week, when he appeared before Mr. D. G. A Cooper S.M., at the Magistrate's Court. Henderson said ho was anxious to go to Auckland, in order to have the matter settled. The Auckland police advise that the hearing should take place at Wellington, wherl moat of the evidence, relating chiefly to fingerprints, is easily accessible,
