ENGLAND'S FEAR OF HER RIVAL. THE BIG NATAL BATTLE AND BLOCKADE ANXIETY. (Times and Sydney Sun Services.) (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, February 2. The German wireless bureau has issued nn interview, intended for American consumption, with tho Admiralty Chief of Staff, Admiral Holtzendorff. He declared that the English submarines had been unsuccessful for four weeks in the Baltic. "The German Navy will never be in danger from England," who," he added, "fears the trade rivalry of our intact merchant marine, and also the growing American Navy." He denies that fifty German submarines have been lost, declaring that Germany has not lost half that number. Replying to a question about the possibility of a big naval battle, be said: "Ine decision does not rest with us. We are always prepared." "Ine blockade is causing anxiety in Germany, not because of any military pressure, but because," and then Holtzendorff says much about the sufferings of the women and children, which is not attached to this portion of the interview, but wnich the German wireless asked to "have published verbatim.
