HAMILTON SEWAGE CONTRACT
HIGHER WAGES CLAIMED. LABOURERS' DEMANDS CONCEDED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. A dispute recently arose between the contractors on the Hamilton municipal drainage work (Messrs. Hynes and Field) and the men employed in regard to the rate of wages. The labourers on the job were being paid 12/ per day, and were asking an additional shilling. This was refused by the contractors, and the secretary and organiser of the General Labourers' Union (Auckland), Messrs. Wesley E. Richards and Robert J. Heffron, were appealed to. The secretary and organiser accordingly visited Hamilton yesterdayi and a complete agreement was arranged at as a result, the raite being fixed at 1/7 J per hour, or 13/ per day. The men will also be paid double time for all work done on 'statutory holidays, in regard to preferjence, the agreement provides that all men employed shall hecome members within seven days and remain financial.
