Jauuary 22, is. as follows:— Meat.—The market Is quiet, and very little business Is being done, owing to a ' continued large supply of all descriptions of home killed, which is selling at poor prices. Present prices for' frozen meat are firmer, owing to short supply. Mutton.—Canterbury, 7*} d per lb for light weight; medium. 7}d.. Other brands' than Canterbury are not quoted. The average prices of lamb are: Canterbury. 7** d for all weights; second grade. 73d; other brands than Canterbury, 7Jd for best quality; ordinary quality, 7gd."'•" '"' "'7l Beef.—No New Zealand beef of any description is offered at the market. Chilled hinds. 7Jd; fores, 53d. Butter.—The market Is quiet at a decline. Danish, per cwt, .156/ to 160/*. New Zealand, spot market hare owing to' slow delivery from the docks. Gooa demand for butter available at 144/ to 146/, and np to 14S/; unsalted, 156/ to 160,/; fine,; 140/ to 142/; Australian, 140/ up. to' '146/; Slherlan, 124/ to 130/; Argentine, 138/.to 142/. Cheese. —The market is inn, ahd prices" continue to advance. Canadian, .white.and coloured, 90/ to 100/; New Zealand, white and coloured, 08/; United States, "Cheddar shapes, 96/ to 98/; English Cheddar, 104/ to 106/; Cheshire. 114/ tb 118/. •Hem-p.—The market is .very fii-m and , greatly affected iby reports "of freight shortages. The market is excited, and i accurate quotations cannot he given. The following quotations are nominal: —New, Zealand, good fair, per ton, on spot, £45, fair £43: Manila, new graded fair £35. coarse £49; January to March shipment New Zealand good -fair £43, ■ fair £42. Tow: Second grade. £25. The output from Manila for the week was 16,000 bales. Wheat.—The market is steady, and prices are well maintained. There is good demand for forward delivery.- Canadian, on spot 68/ per quarter, January-March shipment 67/: Australian, January-March shipment v "by steamer 65/6, *ay sailer 44/. Oajs.—The market is quiet, and onlysmall business Is being done.' Argentine, on spot 31/6, January-March shipment 34/. ■Hops.—On account of freight scarcity the market is. steady with Improved demand. ■Wool.—The market is strong.
