MANUREWA.

ALTERATIONS TO RAILWAY AM) ROAD. The boundary between Manurewa anil Takanini is the Papakura Stream. It is here that the Main Trunk line crosses the Great South Road. But the alterations to the railway line (now in progress) will bring the crossing of the line and the South Road about a quarter of a mile nearer Manurewa township. The new crossing will be by overhead bridge. This will be a distinct improvement. But to secure this result suck radical alterations have been made to the Great South Road (&i shown by the work in progress) that the residents here are wondering when the County Council, local' Road Boards, Automobile Associations, and others interested are going to protest against the making of the South Road a dangerous roadway. The extensive alterations to the railway track are being undertaken to secure a better grade, but whilst this is all right for the railway, it is apparent that the Department has (to suit its own purpese) put in a big bump on the Great South Road. This defect ie bad, but the sharp deviation made In the road will become a menace and a danger. This is now patent to any casual observer. We have, then, the Manukau County Council now making extensive alterations to the Great South Road is it traverses the township. These alterations have been undertaken with the main object of obtaining a good grade. The work in hand to-be next undertaken by the County Council is in removing the dangerous deviation in the South Road, just before entering Papakura, known as Walter's Corner. Now midway between these County Council South Road alterations are the Railway Department's alterations, and the very defects the County Council on both sides is seeking to remove, the Railway Department has intensified to a very great degree—Own Correspondent.
