Adjutant Wain las been transferred from Hastings to the charge of the Salvation Army Home at Ashburton. Lieutenant - Colonel Chaplain Gillam left by the express last night to meet Archdeacon Evans, of New Plymouth, who has been appointed to the hospital ship Maheno. Mr. A. M. Ferguson, of the firm of John Burns and Co., and late Belgian Consul for Auckland, arrived by the Tainui at Wellington, after a lengthy trip with his wife to the OJd Country. The Hon. \V. H. Herries has written' to the Piako County Council, stating he ihad conrmunicated with the Minister oi Justice re that Jb'ody'B- recommendation that Mr. J. D. Morrison be appointee Coroner for Te Aroha district. Mr. D. H. Fox, who died at Napier this week, saw active service as a bugler during the Maori war. (For many years Mr. Fox was on the telegraphic staff at Napier Post Office, and more recently acted as postmaster at various towns on the West Coast. Mr. and Mrs. E. Pascoe, of Gillies. Avenue, Epsom, celebrated their g-jjden wedding to-day, were married at St. AnstcLTs, Cornwall, on January 21, 1860, and arrived in Otago 40 year's ago, when the rush was on to the goldfields. In ISB4 the couple came to Auckland, where they have resided ever since. Bishop Cleary, Romaii Catholic Bishop of Auckland, received quite an ovation in the Town Hall in Wellington on Tuesday, when the reception was tendered Archbishop Ceiretti, the -Papal delegate. As' soon' as'.Df. Cleary appeared on the platform applause broke out, and three cheers were called for by -a gentleman in the audience, and responded,.to .enthusjajstically. Later, when Dr. Cleary rose to speak, the aDDlause lasted for several minutes.
