STEAMER MARERE SUNK.

THE CREW SAVED. (Received 1.40 p.m.) LONDON, January 19. The, Common wealth and Dominion line steamer Marere has ; been sunk. The crew were saved. The Marere was a well known vessel 'in the Australian fend -New Zealand frozen meat trade, and was a fairly frequent visitor to Auckland. She was a twin-screw steamer of 6443 tons, and was built in 1902 by Workman, Clark and Co., Belfast. The Marere was last at Auckland in July, 1914, when she brought a cargo from New York. Some time ago she was taken over by the Commonwealth Government for transport duty, and was apparently so engaged when she met her fate.
