THAW MAKES GERMAN TRENCHES UNTENABLE
RUSSIANS CARRY OFF WIRE ENTANGLEMENTS. ENEMY'S FEVERISH ATTEMPTS TO DRAIN LAND. (Received 2 p.m.) PETROGRAD, January 19. A thaw rendered the German trenches in the Pinsk district untenable, flooding them with subterranean water. The posts from which the barbed wire was suspended would no longer stick in the soaking soil, and the Russians carried off the barbed wire from the whole front of two enemy sectors. Tho Germans are feverishly trying to drain the land.
