A visit was paid to Whakatane last week by the Minister of Native .Affairs, Hon. W. H. Herrirs. The object for the visit was stated to be that the Minister desired to meet the. chiefs 'of the Urewera country on native land matters. The Government has already purchased 125,000 acres of land in the district, so that before long a large, area' of the block should be open, for selection.
