COMMANDEERED SHIFS.

A NEW REGULATION (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Additional war regulations gazetted to-night provide that where any ship is required for Government transport purposes, a requisition-signed by the Minister for Defence, and delivered to the owner, charterer, agent, or master of the vessel, shall entitle the Minister to immediate possession. The V__ Minister, Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey, a *t»yy* days ago communicated yvith 'Mr. yv. M. Hughes, Prime Minister of Australia, on the subject of the possibility of the Commonwealth Government requisitioning certain Australasian traders calling at Australian porta prior to coming here. This morning Mr. Ma66ey received a cable from Mr Hughes saying that the Commonwealth Government did not intend to interfere with the ships-referred to, viz., the Ashburton, Berwick Law, Arrino, and Calliope. All these are insulated vessels.
