IN WAIHX IJQUOR. AN INFORMER'S GRIEVANCE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, Tuesday. In the Magistrate's Court to-day, ac the result of the recent liquor raids made by the police, several cases of alleged "ely grog selling were heard; Senior-Sergeant Wohlmann prosecuted. Ellen Griggs, tobacconist, pleaded guilty to keeping liquor for sale, and was fined £25 with coets. During the hearing Mr. Clendori strongly urged that the name of the police agent who, it was sworn, had purchased two bottles of whisky from one of the defendants, should, be divulged: The police refused to give the name, and the magistrate would not insist upon the man's identity being made kncwn. It was stated in evidence by a constable that the man in question had a grudge against sly grog sellers, because they had sold him liquor containing half kerosene. W. Higgins, hotelkecper at Thames, for failing to properly label a package of liquor consigned to Waih'i, was flned : 30/, with costs 7/. H. Brownlee, 'hotelkeeper, at Thames, ■was fined £3 and costs for sending unlabelled liquor into Waihi, and was convicted and ordered to pay costs for selling liquor without getting a proper order from the purchaser. Three other chaTgea were withdrawn.
