TAXING MOTOR CARS.

MAY CHECK VISITORS NORTH. Reference wae made at the meeting of the Council of t!ic Auckland Automobile Association kit night to the fee of 30/ imposed upon motor-cara by the by-laws of the Waitemata County Council. Mr. A. Cleave said he had been stopped by a ranger, who informed him he must pay that fee for travelling over the Toads in the county with hie car. He said the new by-law included a provision for propelled vehicles being taxed. He did not think that unreasonable, but did object to any differentiation in the rates imposed on vehicles. At the same time, if every one of the nine county councils north of Auckland charged 30/ it would cost £13 10/ for a motorist to go to Waipapakanri.Mr. C. Gardner (vice-president), who was in the chair, pointed out the charge ■woaM deter people from visiting the hot springs at HelensviHe, and also at Wai•wera. Menibew had been invited by the Council to be present at the ceremony of opening Muriwai Road, but if all the members went, the cost for fees would be £60. The Council decided to appoint a eubcommittee to go into'tHe matter.
