TROTTING CONFERENCE.
ITIPENDIARIES' APPOINTMENT AMENDED. PROPOSAL CARRIED. LEGAL POINT RAISED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) v WELLINGTON, this day. The Trotting Conference to-day consid'.red the question of the appointment of stipendiary stewards. The executive iuggested the appointment of one permanent steward, and of deputy stewards when, and where they were required, and ilso the appointment of a committee to appoint and control stipendiary stewards. It. was stated that the president of the Racing Conference had been ap- i proached with the view of securing an efficient control of trotting events on i racing clubs' programmes. After discussion the president consented to amend the motion in the direc- ' tion indicated, that the scheme come ; into force on the Ist of August for one , year, instead of three as originally proposed. The voting resulted in 16 dele- i gatee favouring the report and 7 j against. To make any amendment to the rules it requires a three-quarters majority. On that basis the eehemo ' would have been rejected, but the point arose as to whether the report constituted an alteration to the rules or was renlly an ordinary resolution, requiring a bare majority. ■ The question'was referred to the legal adviser of the conference.
