I A warning to the public against the hard luck tales of allegedly returned soldiers is given in Southern papers by officers of the Christehurcli Citizens' Defence Corps. Instances were mentioned to a reporter where men had been when £.■) and had spent it in drink, whilrt one man had actually refused a good suit of clothe 3on the ground thatit was not good enough, and had been found subsequently "cadging" for money. It is stated definitely that between the efforts of the Citizens' Defence Corps and the new Returned Soldiers' Association no genuine case of distress can exist, and the public may take it for granted that when a man has exhausted these sources i of help his case is not likely to be helped by other gifts.
