ROYAL COMIC OPERA COMPANY. "GIPSY I_OVE." As is generally known, the J. C. 'Williamsou Hoyai Comic Opera Company, the premier musical organisation of Australasia, will play a three nights' season at H.M. Theatre, commencing to-night. A very important initial attraction Is announced lv the 'brilliaut light opera, "Gipsy Love," a phenomenally successful comic opera. The music of •liipsy Love" is by Franz Lehar, the composer of "The Merry Widow." The libretto, which Is described, as being parti- ! cularly sparkling, is from the pen of A M Wiluer, the lyrics being by Adrian Ross! the temperament of the story is poetical though at times stirring and dramatic llona, daughter of Dragotin, the ruler of the State, becomes deeply enamoured of "Joszi," a gipsy, but of aristocratic parentage "Joszi" is as handsome as a dream aud a wonderful player on the violin At the same time llona Is betrothed to one "Jonel," a dashing Captain of Hussars. Bewitched with the gipsy, llona elopes with hlni, a proceeding which involves grave political results. The Ducal Cragotlu is furious, and starts after the romantic pair in hot pursuit. There Is also a sub-plot of much Ingenuity In the love affairs of Lady Babby and the Duke and ample comic relief at the hands of Katelan and Jolan.
