HARD TASK OF DEFENDING EGYPT AHEAD. '" (Received 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, December 26. The "Spectator" says that the withdrawal from the Dardanelles is nothing less than a military miracle. Every unit officer must have been carefully coached, and the minutest time-table arrangements made. The Gallipoli staff has shown that it can achieve the most difficult work with a precision which the Germans envy. The hardest task ahead is the smashing of the threatened attack on Egypt, where the enemy will light under the greatest disadvantage.
